USD 458 Board of Education Approves New Strategic Plan, Mission and Vision

The Basehor-Linwood Board of Education, at their September 13, 2021, meeting approved a new mission, vision and strategic plan for USD 458.

A strategic plan is a powerful tool used to focus a district’s efforts and energy, reflecting beliefs and priorities in the form of goals and directives, providing a means for maintaining focus on important objectives over the long-term. While not every strategy or program that relates to these goals is listed, our pillar graphic will help you to understand the focus of the Basehor-Linwood School District moving forward.

In the spring of 2021, the Basehor-Linwood School District brought together 80 parents, teachers, students, administrators, business and community leaders for a discussion about the state of the district with the purpose of developing a strategic plan for 2022 - 2027.

Facilitated by Kansas Association of School Boards, the groups evaluated the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of USD 458. In addition, a community survey administered in June by Patron Insight was used to gather additional feedback from the community at large.

After sharing a number of ideas and keeping the district’s guiding values and mission statement in mind, the group came to a consensus of three pillars on which to focus: Student Success, Operational Excellence, and Equity & Efficiency.

Although it sounds like only a slight change from our previous mission, a lot of thought and discussion went into the new mission: "Each student develops and reaches their potential."
Changing the word “any” to “EACH” reminds us of the importance of making a connection with EACH child in our schools. The pronoun “their” was chosen specifically as gender-inclusive language, as we acknowledge USD 458 is a progressive school district, working toward inclusivity for each student.
The vision established was: "The Basehor-Linwood School District strives to continually be an inclusive educational community where growth in social, emotional, academic and physical well-being is cultivated, and passions are pursued with high expectations."

“Being a part of developing a strategic plan takes time and gives us an opportunity to listen to many stakeholders invested in the future of our school district,” Board president Dayna Miller said. “Our students, staff, and parents are integral to our success as a district, and I could not be more proud of our newly refined mission, vision and strategic plan for Basehor-Linwood Schools.”
