Basehor-Linwood USD #458 is located in the southeast corner of Leavenworth County. It includes the communities of Basehor and Linwood and surrounding areas, a total of 89.6 square miles. According to the 2003 Census, the town of Basehor has a population of 2,715 and the town of Linwood has a population of 409. In addition, a substantial percentage of the population live in scattered housing developments and single-family dwellings outside these towns. Residents enjoy close proximity to Kansas City and the university town of Lawrence.
Basehor and Linwood operated separate school systems until a 1966 Unification Statute combined them into one district. K-12 programs continued in each town until the fall of 1988. At that time, the high schools were combined and located in Basehor, and the junior highs were combined into a middle school located in Linwood. There continues to be a K-6 elementary school in each town.
