Students in the Basehor-Linwood School District showed continued improvement on the 2011 Kansas Assessments according to scores released by the Kansas Department of Education. Test scores reveal more students are meeting and exceeding Kansas standards in mathematics and reading.
Federal regulations under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) require all student groups to meet or exceed defined targets for math and reading on state assessments, or Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). These targets have increased annually with a goal of having 100% of students proficient in reading and math by 2014.
To meet AYP, schools and school districts must reach annual targets for performance on the state reading and math assessments for all students in grades 3 through 8, and grade 11 in high school, as well as goals for attendance, participation, and graduation rates. Performance targets must be met for the full student population, as well as for sub-groups based on race/ethnicity, special needs, free and reduced meal students and English proficiency. Basehor-Linwood has students in two sub-groups, special needs and free and reduced meal students.

To have 95.3% of our students meeting the standard in reading and 94.7% in math bodes well for our community."

ACT Improvement
In addition to meeting AYP in 2011, we are pleased to announce that the Basehor-Linwood High School 2011 ACT composite score of 22.3 is a gain of over one point from 2010! Basehor-Linwood High School Principal, Sherry Reeves, attributes this improvement to the commitment from students, staff and parents to achieve a common goal, "Improving ACT scores is an ongoing priority at BLHS." Superintendent David Howard agrees, "We really have to give credit to the teachers who continue to increase classroom rigor and have worked diligently to achieve this goal." |
